From 1 July 2007, the whole of the United Kingdom has smokefree legislation in place, making it the biggest jurisdiction in the world (by population) to have legally-enforced protection from secondhand smoke. Virtually all workplaces should be smokefree, which means that all employees in offices, shops, factories, restaurants or pubs will be able to work in a clean, smokefree environment.
The Pollution Control Team deals with air quality, land contamination, environmental planning, noise nuisances, drainage, litter, dog control and other nuisances from residential & commercial premises.
The Health and Safety Team inspect businesses to ensure that they are complying with health and safety legislation, investigate accidents at work and complaints about working conditions, and monitor private water supplies.
The Food Safety Team inspect food businesses to ensure that they are complying with both food safety and health and safety legislation, investigate complaints about food and premises, and food poisoning. We also provide food safety training, advice to new business operators and register food businesses.
The Planning Enforcement Team deals with alleged contraventions of the planning regulations, illegal advertisements and untidy sites, caravan sites and various other planning issues.
